Whoopi is a second rate lounge singer who witnesses her boyfriend (Keitel) gun someone down in cold blood. Forced into hiding, Whoopi finds refuge in a convent, where the untraditional and irreverent nun leads the choir in a Motown revue that even gets Mother Superior (Smith) shaking her groove thing. "The Singing Nun" never had music like this.
